This set of activities focuses on Onset-Rime Phonemic Awareness (Kindergarten-1st) skills including: Blending — Blend the onset with the rime to create a word. ‘d’ + ‘og’ = ‘Dog' Segmenting — Break the word into onset and rime. ‘Cat’ = ‘c’ + ‘at’. Recognize Rhymes — Rhyming words are words that sound the same in the middle and at the end. Do these words rhyme – ‘mat’ and ‘bat’? Create Rhymes — What words rhyme with ‘sit’? Alliteration — Words that have the same first constant or vowel sound – ‘Big boys buy black bugs'’. Deletion — Taking out or changing the first sound in a word. This intervention series is also associated with an 11 part phonemic awareness series focusing on specific sounds (found in the Marketplace).
